For clients with more essential devices to be connected to the TV, such as remotes, media devices, gaming consoles, and cable boxes, it may be needed to have a surface for those devices sit close by to be connected to the TV. Of course everything can just be placed on a tabletop home entertainment center but it takes up a lot of room (which was the reason to mount the TV in the first place).
After mounting a TV, many clients like to have an accompanying mounted shelf below to place essentials or just to keep items organized for display. An added bonus is the customized furniture helps the mounted TV fit into the design of the room.
Mounting one is very similar to mounting a TV on the wall. Depends on the type of wall you are working with. If it is a dry wall, best to find the wall studs to drill into. But unlike a TV, the floating shelf may not be as heavy depending on what will be placed on it. If the shelf is not expected to hold much weight and wall studs are not in the vicinity, wall anchors may be used instead. But if the shelf would be installed as part of a home entertainment system below a mounted TV, the same studs used for mounting the TV may be used for the shelf.
If it is a solid wall the installer will not have to worry about finding wall studs but will need the correct tools to be able to drill through the wall. Refer to the TV Mounting page for more information about Wall Mounting.
